Maalhagh-Fard, Ahmad
Ahmad Maalhagh-Fard
Associate Professor, Division of Clinical Dentistry, teaches Oral and Maxillofacial Implants and Fixed Prosthodontics at the Corktown Campus. Dr. Fard’s interests focus on implant dentistry, educational research, and digital dentistry. He has several publications in referred journals and lectures both nationally and internationally and serves as a reviewer for a number of peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Fard is a Diplomate of the American Board of Prosthodontics, and a Fellow of American College of Prosthodontists. He earned his D.D.S. from Creighton University, and both his M.S. and Certificate in Prosthodontics from the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Dr. Fard maintains practice limited to prosthodontics, esthetic and implant dentistry in the School of Dentistry’s faculty practice clinic. Dr. Fard joined Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½± School of Dentistry in 1997.

MacDonald, Douglas A.
Douglas A. MacDonald
Associate Professor, College of Liberal Arts & Education, is an active scholar with an ongoing research program focusing on the measurement of spirituality and its relationship to human functioning. MacDonald serves in an editorial capacity for a range of scientific journals including the Journal of Transpersonal Psychology (Associate Editor), the Journal of Humanistic Psychology (Senior Research Editor), and the Psychology of Religion and Spirituality (Consulting Editor). He holds a doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the University of Windsor. He joined Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½± in 2000.

Maleki, Mina
Mina Maleki
Assistant Professor of Computer Science and Software Engineering, has current research interests focused on machine learning and pattern recognition, bioinformatics, text, and big data mining. Since 2004, she has been involved in many IT and research projects related to employing machine learning approaches in different areas, including text mining, real-time locating systems, bioinformatics, and transportation. She is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), IEEE Computational Intelligence Society, IEEE Computer Society, and IEEE Women in Engineering. Before joining the University in 2019, she was a sessional instructor at the University of Windsor, a part-time instructor at St. Clair College, and a SOSCIP TalentEdge postdoctoral research fellow at the Cross-Border Institute (CBI) at the University of Windsor.

Mammo, Sohayla A.
Sohayla A. Mammo
Clinical Assistant Professor, Division of Clinical Essentials and Simulation, Division of Clinical Dentistry, is a group leader in the Dental Clinic and works with both DS 3 and DS 4 Dental students in helping to prepare them for patient management and care delivery as well as restorative procedures. Additional responsibilities include mentoring/advising students. She is pursuing a Master of Arts degree in Arts Curriculum and Instructions. Dr. Mammo holds a D.D.S. degree from Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½± and maintains a part time practice in general dentistry.

Manning, Paula J.
Paula J. Manning
Assistant Dean for Academic Success and Bar Preparation and Professor of Law, received her J.D. cum laude from Western State University College of Law and her B.S. from the University of California-Irvine. She is a nationally-known expert on academic success, legal pedagogy, and the teaching of professional skills in law school. She is author or co-author of several books, chapters, and journal articles, and has presented at conferences around the country on academic success and learning in law school. Prior to her career in academia, she was director of litigation for the Fair Housing Foundation in Long Beach, California. She joined the University in 2021.

Manning-Lee, Laura
Laura Manning-Lee
Clinical Associate Professor, Division of Clinical Dentistry, taught dental hygiene students for 16 years and transitioned four years ago to teaching periodontics to pre-clinical and clinical dental students. She continues to work in a private prosthodontic practice. She has received a number of faculty awards. She earned a Certificate in Dental Hygiene in 1994 and her Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene in 1995, both from the Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½± School of Dentistry. She received her Master of Arts Degree in Curriculum and Instruction in 2012 from Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±.

Mantzopoulos, Victoria L.
Victoria L. Mantzopoulos
Professor, Executive Director of China Programs, Academic Coordinator for International Programs, teaches statistics, American government, public policy and undergraduate law. Mantzopoulos' publications and professional presentations both here and abroad have dealt with the political economy of China and public opinion polling. Her published books include The Political Economy of China’s Systemic Transformation 1979-Present: Successes, Obstacles, Anomalies (with Raphael Shen, S.J.) and several textbooks including Probabilities and Statistics (Kendall-Hunt), Foundations in Statistics (Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½± Press), and Statistics for the Social Sciences (Prentice Hall). She is a member of the Midwest Economic Association and the Midwest Political Science Association. Throughout her University career, she has served on numerous committees and held leadership positions including associate dean of the College of Liberal Arts & Education. Mantzopoulos began her academic career at the University of Athens in Greece. She holds a Bachelor of Arts from Ball State University and master's and doctoral degrees from Wayne State University. She joined the University in 1986.

Markofsky, Stewart S.
Stewart S. Markofsky
Clinical Assistant Professor, Division of Clinical Dentistry, co-directs the amalgam and composite module of Restorative I and Rounds II. He also teaches restorative dentistry in the Simlab and DS-3 and DS-4 clinics at Corktown. He is involved in preparing DS-4 students for the Prosthodontic and Restorative sections of the CDCA Exam. Additional activities include mentoring of DS-1 and DS-2 students. His interests include the integration of foundational knowledge and skills in operative dentistry to the clinical setting. Dr. Markofsky earned his B.S. (Hons.) from the University of Michigan and his D.D.S. from the University of Detroit.

Emeritus Professor of Law, served as the administrator of the Law School's American Inns of Court, a program designed to give students insights into litigating techniques and professional responsibility. He also taught Civil Procedure, Evidence, and Remedies. He joined the University in 1988.

Mawhinney, Thomas C.
Thomas C. Mawhinney
Professor of Organizational Behavior and Human Resources Management, teaches organizational behavior, strategic policy and organizational theory. He has published research concerning reinforcement, work motivation and leadership in the Journal of the Experimental Analysis of Behavior and Journal of Organizational Behavior Management; conceptual analysis of work motivation and reinforcement processes in the Academy of Management Review, Journal of Applied Psychology, Organizational Behavior and Human Performance and Performance Improvement Quarterly; and applied research concerning performance improvement in the Journal of Business and Psychology and Journal of Organizational Behavior Management. Mawhinney earned his B.A. and M.S. degrees from the University of South Florida and a Ph.D. from The Ohio State University. He joined the University in 1987.

Mayberry, Melanie E.
Melanie E. Mayberry
Clinical Associate Professor, Division of Practice Essentials and Interprofessional Education, Director, Practice Essentials and Interprofessional Education, has served as a DS4 Clinic Treatment manager, attending faculty in the AEGD Residency Program, and course director of the DS4 Clinical Responsibility courses. Dr. Mayberry was appointed director of Pre-doctoral Patient Care at the University Health Center Clinic from 2008-2015. Dr. Mayberry received a Fellowship from the Academy of General Dentistry, participated in the American Dental Association Institute for Diversity in Leadership Program in 2007 and participated in the American Dental Education Association Leadership Institute in 2013. Dr. Mayberry maintains a part-time private practice and has a strong interest in inter-professional education and integrated health. Dr. Mayberry is a graduate of Meharry Medical College School of Dentistry, received a certificate from the Hospital Dentistry Section in General Practice Residency from the University of Michigan Medical Center, and earned a Master’s degree in Health Care Management from the Harvard School of Public Health. She joined the University in 2006.

Molly L. McClelland
Professor, McAuley School of Nursing, joined the Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½± in 2008. She teaches across the undergraduate and graduate Nursing programs. Dr. McClelland is a certified Adult Clinical Nurse Specialist. She earned her B.S.N. from Indiana Wesleyan University, M.S.N. and Ph.D. from Wayne State University. She has led multidisciplinary collaborative work (with the Detroit Mercy College of Engineering & Science) to build assistive devices for physically disabled people. From 2013-2019. Dr. McClelland served as the editor of MedSurg Matters!, a publication produced by the Academy of Medical Surgical Nurses Association (AMSN).

Sherry McConnell
Clinical Instructor, McAuley School of Nursing, teaches obstetrical nursing, immersion, and community health clinical in the undergraduate program. She earned her B.S.N. from Madonna University and her M.S.N. from University of Toledo. She has 20-plus years clinical experience. Her specialty is labor and delivery were she is certified in Electronic Fetal Monitoring. She is current member of the Association of Women’s Health Obstetrical & Neonatal Nursing, Association for Nursing Professional Development & Sigma Theta Tau. She is also a nurse educator for a local hospital system. She joined the university in 2005 as an adjunct faculty member and has been full time faculty since 2015.

Aman L. McLeod
Associate Professor of Law. Aman McLeod joined the Law School in 2022. McLeod received a B.A. in Political Science and History from Amherst College, a J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School and a Ph.D from the University of Michigan. McLeod previously taught at the University of Idaho, Florida Coastal School of Law, Rutgers University – Camden, and the University of Michigan. He is the author and co-author of several book chapters and articles, mostly on topics concerning judicial behavior, judicial selection, constitutional law, and state and local government law.

McLonis, Kristine A.
Kristine A. McLonis
Associate Librarian, works in the Cataloging and Database Management Department of the McNichols Campus Library, catalogs library items and helps to maintain the accuracy and integrity of the on-line catalog shared by various libraries in the metropolitan Detroit area. Through her cataloging and authority control work, McLonis also contributes to the holdings of an international library database. She does collection development in the area of music. McLonis holds a B.A. in Music from Marygrove College and a M.L.I.S. from Wayne State University. She joined the library faculty in 1995.

Taylor McNeill, RDH, BSDH
Clinical Instructor, Division of Dental Hygiene, Co-Director of Dental Hygiene Admissions, Coordinator of Dental Hygiene Degree Completion Program, adjunct faculty for dental hygiene pre-clinical courses and clinic courses (DHY 8100 and DHY 8101, CLN 8270). Taylor serves as one of the Co-Directors of Dental Hygiene Admissions as well as the Coordinator for the Dental Hygiene Degree Completion Program. She graduated with her Bachelor's Degree in Dental Hygiene from the Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½± in 2015. Taylor has been with the Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½± in the Division of Dental Hygiene since 2022.

Mehrabi, Mostafa G.
Mostafa G. Mehrabi
Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering, teaches courses in the areas of manufacturing systems, manufacturing processes, computer integrated manufacturing, and quality control systems. He received his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Concordia University (Montreal, Canada) in 1994. He has worked as a research faculty member at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. He is the recipient of the award of Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) for outstanding research achievements in 1996 and the winner (1995) of the Quebec Government Industrial Fellowship, Canada. He joined the University in 2002.

Merriman, Katherine
Katherine Merriman
Assistant Professor of Religious Studies and Director of the Islamic Studies Program. Merriman is a scholar of religious studies with foci in contemporary Islam, race and religion and the anthropology of religion. Her current research centers on charitable giving in American Muslim communities at the intersection of race, class and moral subjectivities. She is interested in ethical debates on social welfare and justice in Islam as well as the processes by which religious communities create new rituals and institutions to support their moral vision. In addition, Merriman is a cultural historian of Islam in New York City. Since 2014, she has run Muslim History Tour NYC, bringing alive 400 years of Muslim history in a major American metropolis through walking tours. Her work has been covered by The New York Times, The New Yorker, NPR and other media outlets.

Meyer, Patrick
Patrick Meyer
Director of the Kresge Law Library and Professor of Law, where he manages the library budget and library personnel, has primary responsibility for the development of the collection, and fosters the creation of services to faculty and students. He has taught extensively for 25 years and teaches Advanced Legal Research in either the online or the traditional format. He managed the development of the required first year legal research course, has dramatically changed the course two times to make it more interactive, and currently manages the program and teaches a substantial number of students each semester. Professor Meyer has served as Chair and Vice Chair of the Curriculum Committee, recently finished a three-year stint on the Honor Council, and was a member of the ABA Self-Study Committee. He is currently a member of the Admissions Committee and Budget Committee, and chairs the Library Committee. The focus of his scholarship is on legal research, online teaching, food labeling laws, and curricular issues. He received his J.D. from Washburn University School of Law, Master of Library Science from Syracuse University and a M.S. from Kansas State University. He joined the University in 2012.

Meyers, Genevieve E.
Genevieve Enid Meyers
Associate Professor of Political Science, Department of Political Science Chair and Director of the Pre-Law Program. Meyers’ areas of expertise include public administration, public management and public policy. Her research interests include administrative reform, democracy and democratization, ethics in public service and politics in Africa. She holds a Ph.D. in Public Management from Florida International University, a Master of Arts in Public Policy and Administration from the International Institute of Social Studies of Erasmus University, the Hague, Netherlands and an Honors Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Makerere University in Uganda. She has taught at Eastern Michigan University and at Marshall University, where she was the University’s first Multicultural Faculty in Residence, Florida International University and Makerere University. She is the author of various peer-reviewed articles and book chapters. Her work has appeared in Public Integrity, Public Money and Management, Public Organization Review, African Journal of Public Administration and Management and Administration Publica, among others. Meyers joined Detroit Mercy in 2013.

Karen Mihelich
Assistant Professor, McAuley School of Nursing, teaches graduate and undergraduate studies focusing on population health management, wellness, and DNP Project development. She is a board-certified Adult Health Clinical Nurse Specialist and Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist. Dr. Mihelich earned her B.S.N. from Mercy College of Detroit, M.S.N. from Oakland University and D.N.P. from Detroit Mercy. She joined the College of Health Professions/McAuley School of Nursing in 2019.

Clinical Assistant Professor, teaches Clinical Periodontics. Dr. Mikail earned her Bachelor of Dental Surgery Dental degree in General Dentistry from University of Baghdad and a Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene from the Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±. She joined the university in 2013.

Mio, Matthew J.
Matthew J. Mio
Professor and Chair of Chemistry and Biochemistry, teaches organic chemistry. His research focuses on new transition metal catalyzed cross-coupling reactions. Projects include exploring both the mechanism and synthetic capabilities of these reactions, with particular emphasis on the generation of phenylacetylenes for use in nanoelectronics and supramolecular chemistry. He is also interested in introductory and organic chemistry curriculum development, as well as the philosophical unification of physical, chemical and biological science in education. Mio holds a B.S. from Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½± and a Ph.D. from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He performed post-doctoral research and teaching at Macalester College where he was awarded a Mellon Fellowship. He joined Detroit Mercy in 2002.

Mitsch, Mary
Mary Mitsch
Professor, Health Services Administration.
Dr. Mitsch is a nurse anthropologist with extensive expertise in interprofessional program development, health sciences and administration. Mary Mitsch joined the Health Services Administration program at Detroit Mercy in 2019. Dr. Mitsch completed her PhD in Medical Anthropology at Wayne State University, MSN at the University of Pittsburgh and her BSN at Villa Maria College of Nursing at Gannon University in Erie Pa.
She is an end-of-life researcher and presents nationally and internationally on issues related to ritual activity surrounding traumatic and sudden death events and how those events are handled in emergency departments by staff and families. She has also presented on how anthropological research and teaching methods can contribute to nursing curriculum. Her other research interests include: population health, narrative and autoethnography. Dr. Mitsch is also an End of Life Doula.

Utayba Mohammad
Associate Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering, teaches courses on computer networking, wireless sensor networks, communication theory, fundamentals of electrical engineering, digital logic, hardware & software integration, and senior design. His areas of interest and expertise are real-time wireless intra-vehicle networks, inter-vehicle networks, co-operative robotic networks, Wireless Sensor Network (WSN), and Robotics Localization and Navigation. He holds Bachelor of Electrical Engineering degree and a post graduate studies degree from Damascus University (Damascus, Syria), and a master's degree and a Doctor of Engineering degree from Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±. He joined the University in 2009.

David Moody
Associate Librarian in the Cataloging and Database Management Department, McNichols Campus Library, helps to ensure the accurate description and access of library materials. He has conducted many statewide workshops on various cataloging topics. Moody received a B.A. in History from the University of Michigan-Dearborn in 1974, and a M.S.L.S. from Wayne State University in 1981. He joined the University in 1982.

Moore, Andrew F.
Andrew F. Moore
Professor of Law, joined the University in 1998 after earning a Master’s degree in Law at Columbia University Law School, where he was named a James Kent Scholar. He also received his J.D. from Case Western Reserve University School of Law and his B.A. from John Carroll University. His practice experience includes representing indigent immigrants in Baltimore, Maryland and research and report writing for a human rights organization in Washington, D.C. He was a member of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits) from 1993 until 2002. Immigration law is one of Moore’s scholarly interests, as well as human rights. He has written articles on refugee issues between the U.S. and Canada and widespread fraud in the provision of legal services to immigrants.

Morag-Hezroni, Michal
Michal Morag-Hezroni
Clinical Assistant Professor, teaches Preclinical Endodontics and Endodontics. Her professional interests include student education, diagnosis, pulp regeneration and dental trauma. Prof. Morag-Hezroni holds a DMD degree from the Hebrew University - Hadassah School of Dental Medicine in Jerusalem, Israel. She completed the Endodontic Graduate Program at the Hebrew University and became a Diplomate of the Israel Board of Endodontic. Prof. Morag-Hezroni joined the university in 2014.

Morgan, M. Lynne
M. Lynne Morgan
Adjunct Dental Hygiene Faculty, Division of Dental Hygiene, teaches dental anatomy, local anesthesia and nitrous oxide/oxygen sedation to dental hygiene students and periodontal instrumentation and dental implant maintenance to second-year dental students. She is also involved in teaching local anesthesia and nitrous oxide/oxygen sedation to practicing dental hygienists in a series of continuing education courses. Additional responsibilities have included clinical dental hygiene instruction to second year dental hygiene students and clinical instruction to third and fourth dental students. Her interests focus on curriculum and instructional design. She has received several teaching awards and is a committee member for Dental Hygiene Admissions. Ms. Morgan holds a Certificate in Dental Hygiene from Mott Community College, B.S. in Healthcare Administration from the University of Michigan-Flint, a M.S. in Health Education from the University of Michigan-Flint and a MA in Curriculum and Instruction from the Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±. She joined the University in 2014.

Morris, Jerry J.
Jerry J. Morris
Assistant Professor of Education, teaches courses in secondary curriculum and methods, social studies methods, course design and introduction to secondary education. Morris was a high school social studies teacher and administrator for the Plymouth-Canton Community School District. He has presented at Michigan Council for the Social Studies and Michigan Science Teacher Association state conferences. He has designed sample lessons for the inquiry strand of the Michigan Social Studies Standards and Benchmarks. Major research emphasis is on development of civic efficacy through service and project-based learning. He holds a B.A. cum laude and M.A. from Western Michigan University and a Ph.D. from the University of Michigan. Morris joined the University in 1999.
