    Maalhagh-Fard, Ahmad

    Ahmad Maalhagh-Fard

    Associate Professor, Division of Clinical Dentistry, teaches Oral and Maxillofacial Implants and Fixed Prosthodontics at the Corktown campus. Dr. Fard’s interests focus on implant dentistry, educational research, and digital dentistry. He has several publications in referred journals and lectures both nationally and internationally and serves as a reviewer for a number of peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Fard is a Diplomate of the American Board of Prosthodontics, and a Fellow of American College of Prosthodontists. He earned his DDS from Creighton University, and both his MS and Certificate in Prosthodontics from the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Dr. Fard maintains practice limited to prosthodontics, esthetic and implant dentistry in Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±SOD’s faculty practice clinic. Dr. Fard joined Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½± School of Dentistry in 1997.

    MacDonald, Douglas A.

    Douglas A. MacDonald

    Associate Professor, College of Liberal Arts & Education. He is an active scholar with an ongoing research program focusing on the measurement of spirituality and its relationship to human functioning. As a part of his program of research, he started a psychophysiology laboratory in 2010 where he is also doing research examining the relation of spirituality and psychosocial functioning to resting brain states measured via quantitative EEG as well as exploring the effectiveness and applications of neurofeedback technologies. He serves in an editorial capacity for a range of scientific journals including the Journal of Transpersonal Psychology (associate editor) and the Journal of Humanistic Psychology (research editor). He received his doctorate in clinical psychology from the University of Windsor. He joined Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½± in 2000.

    Malone-Carter, Taessa

    Taessa Malone-Carter

    Assistant Dean, Undergraduate Nursing Program Operations, serves as the Assistant Dean for the McAuley School of Nursing Traditional and Second Degree Option Detroit nursing programs. Mrs. Carter earned a MSN in Nursing Education at Oakland University and a BSN at Wayne State University. Previous leadership roles include; Associate Dean of Nursing, Interim Director of Education, Director and Assistant Director of Nursing at a skilled nursing facility. She began her nursing career at Detroit Receiving Hospital as a staff nurse in the Level 1 Trauma Center. She has worked as an occupational staff nurse, cardiac specialist in acute and home care as well as a nurse educator for acute care.

    Mammo, Sohayla A.

    Sohayla A. Mammo

    Clinical Assistant Professor, Division of Clinical Essentials and Simulation, Division of Clinical Dentistry, is a Group Leader in the Dental Clinic and works with both DS 3 and DS 4 dental students in helping to prepare them for patient management and care delivery as well a s restorative procedures. Additional responsibilities include mentoring/advising students. She is pursuing a Master of Arts degree in Arts Curriculum and Instructions. Dr. Mammo holds a D.D.S. degree from the Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½± and maintains a part time practice in general dentistry.

    Manning, Stephen

    Stephen Manning

    Associate Professor of Political Science; Chair, Political Science Department; and Director, Pre-Law Program, teaches comparative and international politics and political theory. Manning’s research focuses on political transitions and democratization in communist and post communist countries. He has written on the cultural, social and economic prerequisites of democracy in Leninist systems, Chinese politics after Deng, contemporary Russian elections, a bibliographic essay on political fiction, and is currently completing a comparative politics text for the National Science Foundation. Manning holds a B.A. degree from the University of Massachusetts-Boston, and M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He joined the University in 1993.

    Laura Manning-Lee

    Clinical Associate Professor, Division of Clinical Dentistry, taught dental hygiene students for 16 years and transitioned 4 years ago to teaching periodontics to pre-clinical and clinical dental students. She continues to work in a private prosthodontic practice. She has received a number of Faculty awards. She earned a Certificate in Dental Hygiene in 1994 and her Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene in 1995, both from the Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½± School of Dentistry. She received her Master of Arts Degree in Curriculum and Instruction in 2012 from the Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±.

    Mantzopoulos, Victoria L.

    Victoria L. Mantzopoulos

    Professor, Associate Dean and Academic Coordinator for International Programs. Mantzopoulos teaches statistics, American government, public policy, and undergraduate law. Mantzopoulos' publications and professional presentations both here and abroad have dealt with the Political Economy of China and public opinion polling. She recently published a book titled The Political Economy of China’s Systemic Transformation 1979-Present: Successes, Obstacles, Anomalies, (with Raphael Shen, S.J.). She has also published several textbooks including Probabilities and Statistics (Kendall-Hunt), Foundations in Statistics (Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½± Press), and Statistics for the Social Sciences (Prentice Hall). She is a member of the Midwest Economic Association and the Midwest Political Science Association. Mantzopoulos began her academic career at the University of Athens in Greece. She holds a B.A. from Ball State University and master's and doctoral degrees from Wayne State University. She joined the University in 1986.

    Markofsky, Stewart S.

    Stewart S. Markofsky

    Clinical Assistant Professor, Division of Clinical Dentistry, co-directs the amalgam and composite module of Restorative I and Rounds II. He also teaches restorative dentistry in the Simlab and DS-3 and DS-4 clinics at Corktown. He is involved in preparing DS-4 students for the Prosthodontic and Restorative sections of the CDCA Exam. Additional activities include mentoring of DS-1 and DS-2 students. His interests include the integration of foundational knowledge and skills in operative dentistry to the clinical setting. Dr. Markofsky earned his B.S.(Hons.) from the University of Michigan and his D.D.S. from the University of Detroit.

    Mawhinney, Thomas C.

    Thomas C. Mawhinney

    Professor of Organizational Behavior and Human Resources Management, teaches organizational behavior, strategic policy and organizational theory. He has published research concerning reinforcement, work motivation and leadership in the Journal of the Experimental Analysis of Behavior and Journal of Organizational Behavior Management; conceptual analysis of work motivation and reinforcement processes in the Academy of Management Review, Journal of Applied Psychology, Organizational Behavior and Human Performance and Performance Improvement Quarterly; and applied research concerning performance improvement in the Journal of Business and Psychology and Journal of Organizational Behavior Management. Mawhinney earned his B.A. and M.S. degrees from the University of South Florida and a Ph.D. from The Ohio State University. He joined the University in 1987.

    Mayberry, Melanie E.

    Melanie E. Mayberry

    Clinical Associate Professor, Division of Practice Essentials and Interprofessional Education, Director, Practice Essentials and Interprofessional Education, has served as a DS4 Clinic Treatment Manager, attending faculty in the AEGD Residency Program, and course director of the DS4 Clinical Responsibility courses. Dr. Mayberry was appointed Director of Pre-doctoral Patient Care at the University Health Center Clinic from 2008-2015. Dr. Mayberry received a Fellowship from the Academy of General Dentistry, participated in the American Dental Association Institute for Diversity in Leadership Program in 2007 and participated in the American Dental Education Association Leadership Institute in 2013. Dr. Mayberry maintains a part-time private practice and has a strong interest in inter-professional education and integrated health. Dr. Mayberry is a graduate of Meharry Medical College School of Dentistry, received a Certificate from the Hospital Dentistry Section in General Practice Residency from the University of Michigan Medical Center, and earned a Master’s Degree in Health Care Management from the Harvard School of Public Health. She joined the University in 2006.

    Molly L. McClelland

    Professor, McAuley School of Nursing, teaches across the undergraduate and graduate nursing programs. She is a certified Adult Clinical Nurse Specialist. She earned her BSN from Indiana Wesleyan University, MSN and PhD from Wayne State University. She has lead multidisciplinary collaborative work (with the Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½± College of Engineering and Science) to build assistive devices for physically disabled people. She is the Editor for MedSurg Matters Newsletter, a publication produced by the Academy of Medical Surgical Nurses Association (AMSN).

    McCown, Judy A.

    Judy A. McCown

    Associate Professor of Psychology, teaches graduate courses in psychopathology, theories of psychotherapy, cognitive therapy, and behavioral treatment, and undergraduate courses in history of psychology, lifespan development, and introduction to psychology. McCown’s research interests involve the examination of well-being and distress in non-traditional populations and the incorporation of technology into college teaching. She is a fellow of the Michigan Psychological Association and holds a B.A. degree from the University of Detroit and a master's degree and doctoral degree from Wayne State University. She joined the University in 1995.

    McKinnon, Isaiah

    Isaiah McKinnon

    Associate Professor of Education, teaches the course, Society and Education. He is the City of Detroit’s former Chief of Police and former Deputy Mayor, as well as an NBC News, WDIV-TV Detroit’s Safety Consultant, for which he won an Emmy award. He has authored or co-authored three books and numerous articles on crime victims and has been interviewed on "The Today Show," "Oprah," "Good Morning America," "Rivera Live," and "The History Channel." McKinnon is a national motivational/ inspirational speaker to Fortune 500 companies and schools. He is currently completing two books through Sleeping Bear Press in Ann Arbor/Chelsea, Michigan. He earned his B.A. from Mercy College, M.A. from the University of Detroit and Ph.D. from Michigan State University. He is also a graduate of the FBI National Academy and United States Secret Service School. McKinnon joined the University in 1998.

    Kristine A. McLonis

    Associate Librarian, works in the Cataloging and Database Management Department of the McNichols Campus Library, catalogs library items and helps to maintain the accuracy and integrity of the on-line catalog shared by various libraries in the metropolitan Detroit area. Through her cataloging and authority control work, McLonis also contributes to the holdings of an international library database. She does collection development in the area of music. McLonis holds a B.A. in Music from Marygrove College and a M.L.I.S. from Wayne State University. She joined the library faculty in 1995.

    Mehrabi, Mostafa G.

    Mostafa G. Mehrabi

    Assistant Professor of Manufacturing Engineering, teaches courses in the areas of manufacturing systems, manufacturing processes, computer integrated manufacturing, and quality control systems. He received his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Concordia University (Montreal, Canada) in 1994. He has worked as a research faculty member at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. He is the recipient of the award of Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) for outstanding research achievements in 1996 and the winner (1995) of the Quebec Government Industrial Fellowship, Canada. He joined the University in 2002.

    Meyer, Patrick

    Patrick Meyer

    Director, Kresge Law Library and Associate Professor of Law, has taught extensively for nearly 20 years and teaches several sections of Advanced Legal Research each year in the online and traditional formats. His scholarship focus is on legal research requirements of new attorneys, as well as on curricular issues. Professor Meyer is President of the Michigan Association of Law Libraries (MichALL) and serves on the Executive Board of the Society of Academic Law Library Directors (SALLD). He was previously President of the Southern California Association of Law Libraries (SCALL) and served on the SCALL board for five years. Professor Meyer was a member of the Thomson Reuters Legal Research and Writing Advisory Board. He has made numerous presentations on law firm legal research requirements, teaching an integrated research course, and new library space planning. He joined the University in 2012.

    Genevieve Meyers

    Assistant Professor of Political Science, Genevieve Meyers’ areas of expertise include public administration, public management, and public policy. Her research interests include administrative reform, democracy and democratization, ethics in public service and politics in Africa. She holds a Ph.D. in Public Management from Florida International University; an M.A. in Public Policy and Administration from the Institute of Social Studies, the Hague, Netherlands; and an Honors B.A. in Political Science from Makerere University in Uganda. She has taught at Eastern Michigan University, Marshall University where she was the University’s first Multicultural Faculty in Residence, Florida International University and Makerere University. She joined the University in 2013.

    Mio, Matthew J.

    Matthew J. Mio

    Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry, teaches organic chemistry. His research focuses on new transition metal catalyzed cross-coupling reactions. Projects include exploring both the mechanism and synthetic capabilities of these reactions, with particular emphasis on the generation of phenylacetylenes for use in nanoelectronics and supramolecular chemistry. He is also interested in introductory and organic chemistry curriculum development, as well as the philosophical unification of physical, chemical and biological science in education. Mio holds a B.S. from the Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½± and a Ph.D. from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He performed post-doctoral research and teaching at Macalester College where he was awarded a Mellon Fellowship. He joined the University in 2002.

    Yasmin Mikail

    Mitchell, P. Gail

    P. Gail Mitchell

    Associate Professor of Music, teaches a traditional music survey course, an American music survey, a course in music theater, and African American Women in Music. A soprano soloist in the Detroit area, she has soloed frequently with the Metropolitan Symphonic Band at the Macomb Center for the Performing Arts, in oratorio performances such as Handel’s Messiah, and in opera. In addition to solo work, she has sung with the Detroit Symphony Chorale and Meadowbrook Music Festival Chorus. Mitchell holds a B.S. degree from Oakland University and a M.M. degree from the University of Michigan. She joined the University in 1990.

    Mohankrishnan, Nilakantan

    Nilakantan Mohankrishnan

    Professor of Electrical Engineering, teaches electronics, communications, controls, and signal processing. His area of expertise is in digital signal processing, in particular its application to pattern recognition problems involving both 1-D and 2-D signals. He has published extensively in the areas of voice and handwritten signature recognition. He holds a Bachelor of Technology degree from the Indian Institute of Technology (Madras, India), a Master of Technology degree from the Indian Institute of Technology (Kanpur, India), and a Ph.D. degree from the University of Windsor (Ontario, Canada). He joined the University in 1984.

    David Moody

    Associate Librarian in the Cataloging and Database Management Department, McNichols Campus Library, he helps to ensure the accurate description and access of library materials. He has conducted many statewide workshops on various cataloging topics. Moody received a B.A. in History from the University of Michigan-Dearborn in 1974, and a M.S.L.S. from Wayne State University in 1981. He joined the University in 1982.

    Moore, Andrew F.

    Andrew F. Moore

    Associate Professor of Law, joined the University in 1998 after earning a master’s degree in laws at Columbia University School of Law, where he was named a James Kent Scholar. His practice experience includes representing indigent immigrants in Baltimore, Maryland and research and report writing for a human rights organization in Washington, D.C. He was a member of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits) from 1993 until 2002. Immigration law is one of Moore’s scholarly interests as well as human rights. He has written articles on refugee issues between the U.S. and Canada and widespread fraud in the provision of legal services to immigrants.

    Katherine J. Moran

    Associate Professor, McAuley School of Nursing, teaches across undergraduate and graduate curriculum. She is a certified diabetes educator and Fellow of the American Association of Diabetes Educators. Her areas of special interest, research, and consulting include diabetes education and management, doctor of nursing practice scholarship, and student wellness. She holds a Doctor of Nursing Practice Degree and Nurse Health Educator Graduate Certificate from Madonna University. She joined the University in 2011.

    Morgan, M. Lynne

    M. Lynne Morgan

    Adjunct Dental Hygiene Faculty, Division of Dental Hygiene,  teaches dental anatomy, local anesthesia and nitrous oxide sedation to dental hygiene students. She is also involved in teaching local anesthesia and nitrous oxide sedation to practicing dental hygienists in a series of continuing education courses. Additional responsibilities include clinical dental hygiene instruction to second year dental hygiene students, periodontal instrumentation to first and second year dental students, as well as clinical instruction to third and fourth dental students. Her interests focus on curriculum and instructional design. She has received several teaching awards and is a committee member for Dental Hygiene Admissions. Ms. Morgan holds a Certificate in Dental Hygiene from Mott Community College, B.S. in Healthcare Administration from the University of Michigan-Flint, a M.S. in Health Education from the University of Michigan-Flint and a MA in Curriculum and Instruction from the Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±. She joined the University in 2014.

    Morozov, Serhiy

    Serhiy Morozov

    Assistant Professor of Software Engineering and Computer Science, teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in software engineering and serves on the software engineering assessment committee. He is currently involved in the recommender systems research, but his other interests include data mining and Web development. Prior to his academic career, Serhiy worked as a Web developer for over 5 years. He received a BA degree from the Westminster College in 2005, MS degree from the University of Kansas in 2007, and PhD from the University of Kansas in 2011. Serhiy is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and a member of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM).

    Jerry J. Morris

    Assistant Professor of Education, teaches courses in secondary curriculum and methods, social studies methods, course design and introduction to secondary education. Morris was a high school social studies teacher and administrator for the Plymouth-Canton Community School District. He has presented at Michigan Council for the Social Studies and Michigan Science Teacher Association state conferences. He has designed sample lessons for the inquiry strand of the Michigan Social Studies Standards and Benchmarks. Major research emphasis is on development of civic efficacy through service and project-based learning. He holds a B.A. cum laude and M.A. from Western Michigan University and a Ph.D. from the University of Michigan. Morris joined the University in 1999.

    Moser, Sharon S.

    Sharon S. Moser

    Associate Professor Physician Assistant, has been a full time faculty member in the Physician Assistant Program at the College of Health Professions at the Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½± since January 2000. She currently teaches clinical medicine and Advanced Pathophysiology. Her clinical background is in adult medicine, neurology and psychiatry. Professor Moser is licensed as both a physician assistant and a psychologist in the state of Michigan. She is active in both her state and national professional academies, and has been a regular presenter at both the state and national levels. Her publications include such topics as cancer fatigue, mental status examinations, cardiology testing, and neurological topics including Parkinson's disease and Herpes Encephalitis. Her original research includes the educational topics of service learning in Physician Assistant education, professionalism and predictors of success.

    Munday, Cheryl C.

    Cheryl C. Munday

    Professor of Psychology, teaches case conference, child therapy and professional ethics in the doctoral program and personality theory in the undergraduate major program. Her research interests include behavioral correlates of object relations and defensive functioning in children and racial and ethnic influences in clinical judgment. Her research has been funded by the United Way and the National Institute of Mental Health. Munday is former Director of Psychology and Psychology Training at Detroit Psychiatric Institute, and is currently Director, Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½± Psychology Clinic and Affiliated Faculty, Program for Research on Black Americans, Institute for Social Research. Dr. Munday earned her B.A. degree from Cornell University and her graduate degrees from the University of Michigan. She joined the university in 1997.
