Technical Management (MS)
Description
The Master of Science in Technical Management (MSTM) program is a contemporary program designed for practicing engineers, scientists, technical specialists and technical managers. Program participants will gain new technical abilities, learn business acumen and develop the leadership skills required of a technical manager.
The Technical Management program is an interdisciplinary program that offers a rich and balanced blend of technical and management courses. It is designed to equip future technical managers with skills to face the challenges of global competition and an international workforce. It is a dynamic program as the curriculum is continuously enhanced to meet new and evolving technical challenges.
The Technical Management program is distinctive among management programs because the curriculum is immediately useful as participants can apply lessons to their current employer. All course are taught by seasoned faculty or by industry leaders who bring the real world expertise to the classroom.
In partnership with the International Quality Federation (IQF), the MSTM program provides options for Six Sigma Green Belt and Black Belt Certification. The certification itself is earned through IQF. These Six Sigma courses are open to non-MSTM students.

Admission Requirements
The Technical Management program accepts applicants who have an undergraduate degree in Engineering or Computer Science. Students in other science and math (i.e. STEM) fields are also encouraged to apply. In some cases, prerequisites may be recommended if needed. Students should have at least one year of industrial experience, research experience, or equivalent. Typically a minimum undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0 is required.

Master of Science in Technical Management Degree Requirements (36 credits)
The Master of Science in Technical Management (MSTM) degree requires 36 credit hours beyond the baccalaureate degree: 15 credit hours in MSTM core courses (under EMGT), six credit hours of Business electives and 15 credit hours in the student’s STEM area of interest. Students must maintain a GPA of at least 3.0. Grades below "C" will not advance the student towards graduation. At least half of the courses in the program must be selected from those offered only at the graduate level.
Transfer Credit
Transfer credit is processed by the Office of the Registrar. Students without a previous graduate degree may transfer up to six credits from another graduate program. Students with a previous graduate degree that required less then 36 credits may transfer nine credits. Students with a previous graduate degree that required at least 36 credits may transfer up to 12 credits. Courses only transfer if taken for graduate credit with a grade earned of B (3.0) or higher. The approval of the program chairperson/director/Dean's Office is also required. Other restrictions may apply.

Business Management Elective Courses (six credit hours)
Choose two 5000-level courses from EMGT or MBA business management courses. Please consult your advisor for suggested courses.
Technical Electives Courses (15 credit hours)
Choose five 5000-level courses from a technical discipline. Students may consider stacking one of the College of Engineering & Science Graduate Certificates to use toward this requirement. Please consult your advisor for more information.
